Interview with Mr Tsuyoshi Tamagushiku, a descendant for royal family of Kingdom of Ryukyu., by Catherine Jane Fisher
“In January 1929, without our permission or knowledge, Associate Professor Takeo Kanazaki（金関丈夫）of Kyoto University, broke into the grave of our ancestors and stole their bones. “ said Mr Tsuyoshi Tamagushiku, a descendant of the king family of the Kingdom of Ryukyu, the former name of the prefecture now known as Okinawa.
After the grave robbery came to light attempts requesting the Kyoto University repatriation of the remains to the family was unsuccessful and legal action was taken. Mr Tamagushiku is one of five plaintiffs of a lawsuit against Kyoto University.
“For 90 years the bones of our ancestors have been in held by Kyoto University in a cold place somewhere unknown to our family. Kyoto University stole our family. We want to take our ancestors bones home and give them the respect that they deserve so that they can rest In peace. We seek a positive solution. We want to take our family home. “

1929年1月、京都大学の金関丈夫教授は、私たちの先祖の墓に無断で侵入し、その骨を盗みました。”と語るのは、琉球王国の王族の末裔である玉城毅さんだが、これは沖縄県の旧称である。
墓泥棒が明らかになった後、京都大学に遺骨の送還を依頼しましたが、うまくいかず、法的措置をとることになりました。 玉城さんは、京都大学を相手取った訴訟の5人の原告の一人です。
“私たちの先祖の骨は90年間、京都大学によって、私たち家族の知らない寒い場所に保管されています。 京都大学は私たちの家族を奪った。私たちは先祖の骨を家に持ち帰り、彼らが安らかに眠れるように、彼らに相応しい敬意を払いたい。 私たちは前向きな解決策を求めます。私たちは、私たちの家族を家に連れて帰りたいのです。”
